October 12th- Google's Word Up on Microsoft-

Google has recently unvealed their own online word processor, a potential rival to Microsoft's ever-popular Word application. Google's new application is the very first online word porcessor to ever be revealed, named Google Docs and Spreadsheets. The program promises that users will be able to publish spreadsheets and word processing documents on an HTML page. Google's application software may be more effiencient than Microsoft because the requirements for the processor or located on Google's web server instead of an application directly on your computer. Google's application is free but a version that is more expansive but comes with a fee is available to big companies. Only time can tell if Google will be able to topple the office giant Microsoft.

Digital Musical Rhapsody or iPod's Requiem- Fifth Assignment-September 22nd

Recently Microsoft has announced the release of a new mp3 player they have developed called the Zune. The Zune, if sucessful, will be the first real compeition to Apple's sucessful iPod. Even though both devices have the same basic function, which is to play digital music, they are completely different. For one, the Zune is a different size than the standard iPod and also weighs more. The Zune is also a bit more restrictive as it does work for a Mac computer, play .MOV video files, or Apple Lossless soundtype-files, due to the fact that all of these things are related to Apple, Microsoft's chief rival in the computer industry. iPods are known for their general reliability in the digital music business and the iTunes Music Store, where you can purchase music and movies directly from Apple. Microsoft promises that they will have their own store for users to purchase downloads for the Zune. The Zune promises one thing that is radically different from anything that Apple has done thus far, the ability to transfer entire songs to another user wirelessly as a sample, the songs will only remain on their system for three days or three plays, whichever comes first. In the end, this compeitition couled push Apple to create something that will boosts the iPods popularity even more. Only time can tell the sucess or the failure of the Zune.

September 6- Assignment #3-The Choice of Career

There are many jobs that can be done in America, but of all these jobs I would choose to be a writer myself. The reason I would choose to be a writer is because it is a very flexible job, requires a lot of creativity, and people have told me that I already possess some talent in the field. Also, I wish to inspire and entertain the public through my poems, songs, and stories and I have always looked up to poets like Maya Angelou and Robert Frost as icons and examples of what I wish to be like. I will definitely need to take some sort of journalism or writing class in college if I decide to continue on this path I have chosen. Writers may not make the most money but I am not really that much of a materialistic person, and it would be enough to provide for a comfortable, just not extravagant lifestyle. Furthermore, I would enjoy the job just because it is what I love to do so the pay wouldn't matter a great deal to me anyway. I just hope that some day someone in this class or school will pick up a book or article that I've written and be impressed, while remembering me and the memories of these times.

August 31st-The 2nd Assignment- Picking a Position in Business

After reading the article, I realize that there are many job opportunities for teenagers who are seeking money and wish to try their hand at being an entrepreneur. Me myself personally, if I were to start a business I would start my own newspaper. I would choose to start a newspaper because I have been told I am quite a good writer and I enjoy writing so it would be a perfect position for me. I already have some experience with writing a newspaper before since I was a member of the school newspaper staff during my sophomore year. My newspaper would feature basically political information and details about upcoming media such as movies, books, music, and video games. I would begin by distributing a sample of my newspaper for free at school, so I can let the public and my intended audience(teenagers) see if they would be interested in purchasing future installments. I realize many people would not want to read my paper but if I could find those select individuals who do, I could potentially make a decent profit. Anyway, if I were to start my own business it would definitely be a journalistic type of business.

August 24- First Assignment- The Future of Energy?

Based on the information presented in the article, I predict that it is impossible to create a form of unlimited energy currently. On the otherhand, if the claims by Steorn are true then that means that the world as we know it will change drastically and forever. Everything we are taught in physics class would have to change completely if this claim of the ultimate energy source is viable. Our everyday lives would be much easier since no one would have to buy gasoline for their automobiles, buy batteries for their electronic devices, buy charcoal to fuel a grill, and much much more. On the contrary though, this new energy source could put a lot of people in the gasoline and energy business out of work which could cause major problems in the economy. And if the economy is thrown out of control by such a simple device then the world could theoretically go into a state of widespread chaos. Although, it would change the earth and potentially help people or even save the environment possibly, I believe that if such an energy source were to exist we may see more problems than solutions or it could not cause any problems. It is hard to predict due to human nature possibly using such a thing for selfish reasons. In the end, I do not believe it is possible for such a thing as infinite energy to exist and I predict that even if it is ever created, it will not be in the lifetime of any of us who are alive today.
